Facebook breach – Don’t Panic here’s what we know

The social media giant says it doesn’t know exactly what kind of information has been compromised. However, in an updated statement yesterday, it did admit the hack affected those who use Facebook to log into other accounts and  that attackers exploited a vulnerability in Facebook’s code that impacted “View As” a feature that lets people see what their own profile looks like to someone else.

How do you know if your account was part of the breach?

If you were affected by the breach, Facebook logged you out of your account. However, an important thing to note: If you were logged out, you weren’t necessarily breached.

Here is the action Facebook has already taken.

First, they fixed the vulnerability and informed law enforcement.

Second, They have reset the access tokens of the almost 50 million accounts we know were affected to protect their security. and also took the precautionary step of resetting access tokens for another 40 million accounts that have been subject to a “View As” look-up in the last year. As a result, around 90 million people will now have to log back in to Facebook, or any of their apps that use Facebook Login. After they have logged back in, people will get a notification at the top of their News Feed explaining what happened.

WARNING

If you receive an email telling you that you need to click a link to log back in or do anything else…don’t be fooled! For extra protection change your password.
